HER STORY
Supporting women who want to transform their relationship with working out and eating healthy is a fundamental part of my work. I help clients who have had negative experiences with fitness and nutrition, reframe their beliefs around how it feels and what it takes to “get fit” and “be healthy”. As a former competitive athlete, Katie came to me with some less than positive feelings about formal training programs. In her past, they lacked freedom, flexibility, individuality and fun. Just one look at the pic below and you can see how this gorgeous girl embodies all of those qualities and more!
When Katie first reached out, she had been working out on her own, but her progress had plateaued. She was looking for guidance on how to take her fitness to the next level. She started personal training twice a week. In addition to our workouts, she would do 1-2 days of strength training and cardio on her own. She quickly saw the physical benefits (ie. strength, muscle tone and definition) from the addition of strength training. But not only did she feel herself getting stronger, she also felt better mentally and emotionally.
This experience started to shift her connection to fitness as well as to herself. Wanting to extend this feeling to her nutrition, she joined the Body by Emilee Weekly Meal Plan Group. Prepping and preparing healthy recipes increased her energy, fueled her workouts and long work days. Making changes that didn’t feel restrictive or limiting was so important to her. Her daily habits developed into a healthy lifestyle that felt flexible and authentic! Working with her to heal her relationship with fitness and eating healthy has been awesome! The best part though, was watching her reclaim her identity and seeing herself as the amazing athlete she is!
IN HER WORDS
“As a woman and former D1 athlete, it almost goes without saying that my journey with exercise and nutrition has been pretty fraught. I quit my sport Sophomore year in college and never felt at peace with defining myself as an athlete. I spent years working to accept my self-worth and body image, but I largely avoided strength training as it always harbored lingering fear that I had failed in my sport.
So let’s get into my journey to find Emilee.
In January 2021, I was looking at the reality that I had spent all of the pandemic on the couch — I lacked the motivation to run in a mask and group classes were a non-starter. I had also recently gotten engaged and was motivated to find my way back to a healthier lifestyle. I spent 9 months exercising and prioritizing nutrition and saw progress but felt stagnant after months of pushing myself.
By late September, I was ready to try something else. Emilee will tell you that the women who find her site “know immediately” and I think that’s the case for me too. I felt drawn to her approach towards wellness and her limiting her clientele to women only. I reached out and will probably never forget our first session and the two-day-can’t-walk-down-stairs aftermath. What I will also always remember is her kindness, encouragement, and guidance.
There’s a lot to be said about the year I’ve now spent working with Emilee. The workouts she creates are brilliant and challenging, but she also allows for flexibility when you’re having an off day. She is chatty but not pushy, and as a person who can be slow to warm up, she lets me share personal information at my own pace (I can comfortably say that she now knows more about my day to day than 90% of people in my life). She provides an abundance of materials outside of sessions in the form of meal plans, recipes, and events. Emilee is so supportive she even came to one of my wedding dress fittings when I was nervous about going alone and being self-critical. All around, she was everything I didn’t realize I needed.
It took a few months but when I was ready to do an intention setting session, Emilee let me navigate the realization that I am still, and have always been, an athlete. The goals and intentions I’ve set with her have propelled me to realize that a healthier lifestyle is attainable long term and that my departure from my sport didn’t end my ability to move, grow, and push myself.
Also, I looked UNREAL in my wedding dress.
If you’re still reading this, reach out. It’s worth it.”
Katie! Not only do you look stunning, I know how strong, healthy and amazing you feel! Congrats on everything! ! Love you and love seeing you shine! xo
